They are FLAT and have a spacer ring behind them to clear the alternator brushes. As added protection, the back of the cover has been milled and a plastic insulator plate inserted. I recently purchased this 1980 XS650 with little to know information on it. I recently noticed, the wiring on it is....strange.

Let me state, I am in the beginning stages of wiring. I've gone through all the threads on alternator/stator, looked over 20 wiring guides, clicked the tech tab up top and read all the wiring articles. I've been reading and learning everything I can from youtube videos, this site, and others.

Picking up a 1981 XS. Standard factory electrics. What would be a suggested first step/phase in upgrading the electrics - Pamco? Boyer? So many options at XS Direct makes me a little confused of which route to go.

So I got excited a few months ago when i heard about another xs buildoff. I shy'd away from the one last year because timing was tight and I am halfway across the country from where it takes place.

I keep seeing buildoff threads and I got excited and joined as a builder and sponsor. This means that ill be putting it through about 800 miles on the way to Ohio in August. I cant wait!

Today I gave her a wash
then got out the carnauba wax and waxed her.
lubed the drive chain
checked oil
ordered a new front master cylinder that looks retro instead of the modern one I have now. It will look much better and work well too.

I'm never going to get around to building this wheelset so I may as well cut my losses and sell. Two good condition 19" front wheels, some light pitting and small scratches, one set of Jim Henry adapters for standard bolt on (non QC) rotor and sprocket, comes with his instruction sheet and bearing spacers as well.

The Jim Henry adapter set, like the front wheel adapters from Omar's, allow you to run a 19" front wheel on the rear of your bike for a street tracker, or flat track race bike....

This is for my 77D.Note i am running Uni filters,with 30 pilots,Needle dropped 1 (Leaner) 135 Mains.Gearing
17/30.Stock motor. I just installed new Mikes Commando Muffs on my Mikes manifold upswept pipes.

What is the exact different between uni pods and something like a K&N cone filter? Do uni pods resemble the stock air boxes just with little more air flow and cone filters provide the most air flow? Is there even a major difference? Ive read that a lot of times uni pods require little to no carb tunings.

As you can tell I'm new here, I signed up a couple weeks ago and have been soaking up as much information as I can.

I recently picked up a 75 XS650 in pieces that the PO had been rebuilding. He said the bike had no compression when he bought it and he found the rings were stuck in the piston grooves. He lapped the valves, and I think got the jugs and head back on but said he bent a ring in doing so and scored the bore pretty decently. So I'm guessing he got it together and found...

Right now there are two stockers, one tracker and 5 customs on my local CL.
Two years ago one or two a year maybe.
Five years ago maybe 5-6 a year.

Hello finally figured this out I have a 73 tx650 or xs650 can't figure out the difference but I'm partially restoring it but rather putting everything back on it that shouldn't of been taking off and painted such as orig lights guages and ignition exhaust baffles air filters and a few other things one things is it is backfiring like an anti lag engine petrol heads use from the right exhaust and can't figure out why and sounds and looks unhealthy but it seems to run good but overall it isn't...

I was out riding the other day and my clutch cable snapped. I replaced it with one from Mikes XS. Once I put the clutch cover back on and screwed the clutch adapter screw all the way in the handle is very very tight. So tight that I could barely squeeze it. Thoughts?

So long story short I am looking to do something different with my charging system.

I would love to do a pma from hughes, but do too budget constraints I would like to get a little creative.

I have seen the use of a belt drive alternator on a xs650 before, but it is a little more "junkyard" that I want on this bike.

So I have been looking for an xs650 for about 5 years on and off. I decided its time. I drove 4 hours away last weekend to get a bike and left it there because it was a piece of shit. Wasted $75 in gas and a whole day. SO I found a salvage yard about an hour from me that has been disassembling bikes since the 70's. He told me he has a few complete xs650 for $500, but I don't think it has a title. I have a way to get titles for about $100 with registration, so I am not worried. I...

I have a 520 chain 102 link currently with approx 7000 kilometers on it.
With 17/30 gearing.
If i order a 32 or 33 rear sprocket will my current 102 link fit or will i need to
order a new 104 link chain as well.Thx
